What is Baby Lifeline?

Baby Lifeline came into being in 1981 after Judy Ledger, now Chief Executive, suffered the personal loss of three premature babies. It is a unique national charity that provides technology for use in maternity services, as well as specialist training for its healthcare professionals.

Funds raised by Baby Lifeline help to supply hospitals up and down the country with equipment ranging from digital weighing scales to major pieces of technology, such as incubators and scanners.

As the birth rate increases in this country to approximately 670,000 a year, we still see around 8,500 babies dying around the time of birth and during the first year of life.

As medicine has advanced over the years to improve the care of pregnant women and their babies, more expertise has led to a far higher demand on funds needed for equipment and training. The burden on the NHS is therefore greater than ever before and our appeal is to complement the work already carried out.

What does Baby Lifeline do?

Over a ten year period the charity raised more than £1.5 million and purchased vital equipment for three hospitals in Coventry and Warwickshire - where the charity still has its headquarters. Not surprisingly Baby Lifeline’s influence and work subsequently spread nationwide and to date it has contributed more than £8 million to Britain’s maternity hospitals and services.

Baby Lifeline has created a key training events and resources for medical professionals, including a series of nine interactive educational videos for junior doctors and midwives called the BIRTH series, which has received endorsement from the Royal College of Midwives as well as The Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists.

You can help!

Even a few pence a day can help us to continue with this vital work and on behalf of parents all over the UK we would like to say a heartfelt thank you in anticipation of your kind donation.

Little Soul

Little Soul was written by Tom from Oswald, as his means of coping with the pain and emotions of miscarriage, and was only later recorded when he was able to sing it for purely personal reasons, and not to be part of the Oswald catalogue. With this in mind, Tom has donated the song to global miscarriage and baby loss charities: allowing the charity to use the song on their website as well as encouraging fans to donate money to the charity when downloading the track.

Miscarriage is constantly linked to the pain of a woman losing her unborn, yet rarely is thought to have any effect on the male, the father-to-be no longer. Having fatherhood taken away from Tom was a nightmare come true, and this nightmare has been brought to light through the heartfelt words of Little Soul.
